how it started...
I first started in an open admissions animal shelter and clinic for years. I worked alongside a vet, and learned about animal medication and treatments. I also learned about animal behavior for a variety of different species. I got to work with the public to conduct
adoptions, helping families find their new members.
I started out with my female rats. They were amazing, and sweet, and funny as heck. But the reactions I got from, not only the public, but family and friends were not always a good reaction. There's a large stereotype towards rats that makes them be seen as nasty and mean tempered. I wanted to change that. So I started this. This Rattery where I get to continue to work with animals and change families lives, and
work towards changing public perception towards these amazing creatures that have changed my life.
Not only that but I get to do this with my best friend who owns Bleuming Tails Rattery.

My goals are to make the healthiest, most lovable fur babies I possibly can. I plan out my litters carefully to produce happy, healthy, large rats that will fit in with any family dynamic. My rattery is fairly small in scale, only having a few litters a year available for adoption. In this
way I’m able to work extensively on my lines to produce the types and high quality creatures I wish to provide. I specifically work
with Siamese, Fawn, Cinnamon, mink, Pearl and Russian Blues. I will hopefully be pursuing a dove line as well, but at this time
we're not quite ready. I also have a good mixture of velveteen and standard fur types. Velveteen is mostly in my Siamese
line but I hope to soon expand that fur type into my other lines.
My rats are kept in very spacious DCN cages, with sexes separated. I use bin cages for breeding and as maternity cages. They get a variety of things to climb on, and also get many hides and hammocks. My rats here are fed a diet of raw fruits and veggies as well as low protein
dog food as their main supplement. I don’t approve the use of the fleece and so my rats are kept on kiln dried pine or aspen.
